Our Mission
We are a nonprofit organization providing the newest generation with the tools necessary to advocate for a better tomorrow. Whether it be speaking with their local elected officials or writing op-eds in national newspapers, young people have the power to spearhead powerful change. In order to help facilitate that potential, Attention to Prevention provides a comprehensive, evidence-based program to cohorts of high school students. This program is meant to lay a strong foundation in public policy and inspire a lifelong commitment to public service. Ultimately, our initiatives are focused on creating an environment where young people actively engage in improving community welfare.
Program Overview
Built on an action civics approach, our program immerses students in authentic public policy processes by teaching them how to investigate community issues, explore legislative databases, and frame evidence-based questions. In the Research phase, learners dive into state general assembly portals to analyze bill texts, track committee hearings, and interpret legislative histories as they build a rigorous evidence base. During the Communication phase, students translate complex findings into structured policy research briefs and op-eds, mastering professional writing conventions and strategic messaging to make policy accessible and persuasive. In the Advocacy phase, they convert written work into oral testimony, honing public speaking skills to influence elected officials. By weaving together Research, Communication, and Advocacy, this guided journey cultivates civic agency and equips young advocates to enact meaningful change in their communities.
